1. Sign-up and sign-in
You create an account with a username and password — no phone number, no email.
During sign-up the app shows a 12-word recovery key. Write it down and keep it away from your phone: it is the only way back in if you forget your password or switch phones.
Your password never leaves the device and we have no copy of it, so we cannot reset it for you.
2. A new phone
An account works on one device. On the new phone, sign in with your recovery key — the old device is signed out.
Chat history is stored only on your phone and is never uploaded to the server.
3. Subscription and trial
The trial starts automatically on first launch. No card required.
You subscribe and cancel in Google Play or the App Store, in the subscription settings of your store account. Billing questions go there too.
After reinstalling the app, use “Restore purchases” on the subscription screen.
4. Calls and notifications
If calls or messages don’t arrive, make sure notifications are allowed for Umbera and, on Android, battery optimization is turned off for the app.
If a call won’t connect on your network, turn on “Hide IP in calls” in settings — the call then goes through the relay, which sees only ciphertext.
5. Communities
You post under a separate pseudonym in every channel. The rules are at umbera.app/community-guidelines.
To report a post, comment, channel or member, use “⋯” → Report in the app.
6. Reports and safety
Report a message or a user in the app with the Report menu, or email abuse@umbera.app.
Child safety — report it right away in the app with the reason “Harm to children”, or email safety@umbera.app. Details: umbera.app/child-safety.
Security issues in the code — info@umbera.app with the subject “Security”. The code is open: github.com/UmberaAPP/UMBERA.
7. Deleting your account
You delete the account in the app: profile → Settings → “Delete account”. If you can no longer open the app, follow umbera.app/delete-account.
